Thermostat Nest has become even smarter

Not so long ago on Habré news was published that Google, which bought the manufacturer of the smart thermostat Nest for several billion dollars, opened the device API for third-party developers. This was done in order to create a branched ecosystem of applications and increase the compatibility of Nest with other devices.

Apparently, the open API really contributed to the development of NEST functionality in the right direction. Recently, the company announced the addition of support for several devices at once, including centralized home control systems and appliances from Control4, Crestron, RTI and URC.

What is NEST able now?

Compatible with various devices

Mercedes : the car’s systems inform NEST that the owner is coming soon and the device starts to heat or cool just at the right time. All this allows you to use electricity more economically, respectively, saving money in your wallet.

Well, comfort plays a significant role: opening the door to your home or office, a person gets into comfortable conditions for him.



LIFX : if NEST Protect detects smoke or carbon monoxide in hazardous quantities, the LIFX lamp changes color to bright red, informing the owner and possible guests about the danger.

In addition, in the absence of a person in the room the lights go out, if someone appears - the light comes on again.



Jawbone : A smart fitness bracelet tells NEST when a person starts to wake up. The thermostat immediately begins to act leading the microclimate of the room to a comfortable state for the owner.



v : as soon as the person leaves, NEST "asks" the washing and drying machine from Whirlpool to start work. As a result, the person returns his clothes dry and clean.



Mobile devices from Google : a special application allows you to maintain voice control thermostat. “OK, Google, raise the temperature to 27” - all you need to do to heat the room to a comfortable temperature for yourself.



Chamberlain Garage Systems : As soon as the garage door opening system is activated, NEST is already aware that you have arrived. Accordingly, work begins on the correction of the indoor microclimate and "communication" with other smart devices.



Creation of algorithms of action of IFTTT devices: with the help of a special application, you can program home systems for those or other actions that may be multi-level.



Logitech : With a simple click of the Logetech Harmony button, the next system in the smart home is put into operation. At the same time, the different times of day and in different rooms may be different.

In addition to other updates, the thermostat developers added the ability to view the sensor activity history for the last 10 days, and the event recording function in case of detection of carbon monoxide, CO (the concentration and duration of exposure is recorded).
