Mobile WiMax will start with Russia?

The Russian company promises to begin production of a full range of equipment for mobile WiMax by the end of 2008.

The Russian WiMax Alliance company (RWM Alliance) was established by the Israeli developer of WiMax technologies Runcom, the Sozvezdie concern and the Alliance group. RWM Alliance CEO Sergei Aleshin said that the company will manufacture the whole range of equipment in Russia - from base stations to subscriber devices. It is assumed that RWM Alliance will use Runcom chipsets, and the installation and production of printed circuit boards will be carried out in China.

There is no mobile WiMax network in Russia yet, and there is no existing subscriber equipment, but many are building plans for the near future. Intel has promised to release WiMax-modules for laptops in May 2008. The intention to build a WiMax network in Moscow and the creation of an alliance with Intel to promote laptops with WiMax was announced in 2007 by Comstar - Integrated Telesystems, the launch of the network is scheduled for the end of 2008.

Such a tight deadline causes some distrust, because some of the technological problems of WiMax are not fully resolved, but it is obvious that the arrival of mobile WiMax is not far off.

At the press conference, none of the participants could answer simple questions - who specifically agreed with what forecast, what is planned to do besides stamping in "Constellation" products for other markets.
