Portishead will post a new album online a week before the release

Following the latest trends, the British group Portishead will start promoting the new Third album, putting it on the Internet (to last.fm ) a week before the official sales start. Christian Ward from last.fm stated that this kind of practice (free listening) should help reduce the percentage of illegal music downloads.

The REM group has already laid out its new album Accelerate on the iLike service last month, and Madonna signed a contract with Vodafone , according to which her new album Hard Candy will be distributed with the company's mobile phones from April 21 (also a week before entering music stores).
