Following the latest trends, the British group
Portishead will start promoting the new Third album, putting it on the Internet (to
last.fm ) a week before the official sales start. Starting April 21, all 11 tracks of the new album will be available for free to listen online. However, if you want to download an album, you will have to pay for it.
The last.fm service is based on a scheme where an independent performer earns income every time a song is listened to, plus to everything, last.fm concluded contracts with the largest record labels, and the directories of these companies are also open to listen to any composition up to three times. after which the user will be asked to purchase a favorite song.
Christian Ward from last.fm stated that this kind of practice (free listening) should help reduce the percentage of illegal music downloads.
The
REM group has already laid out its new album Accelerate on the
iLike service last month, and Madonna signed a contract with
Vodafone , according to which her new album Hard Candy will be distributed with the company's mobile phones from April 21 (also a week before entering music stores).
