In anticipation of the Mix Conference, which will be held in Las Vegas, Microsoft met with a small group of technical bloggers. TechCrunch journalist Mike Arrington asked Bill Gates how he sees the future of DRM (Digital Rights Management) technology.
Arrington himself believes the DRM model is not viable. Proof of this is the existence of a mass of musical alternatives like eMusic and Amie Street, not to mention semi-piracy services like Allofmp3. Bill Gates said he agrees with this opinion. “DRM causes too much inconvenience, and the model should be more flexible ... The user should simply buy a CD and convert all the files from it [buy a cd and rip it]. This should all be legal, ”said the founder of Microsoft.
