Astrophysicists have built three-dimensional visualization of our super cluster

A team of astrophysicists from France, Israel and the United States created a three-dimensional visualization of the local super cluster, which includes our Galaxy. The super cluster itself was called Laniakea, which means "Immeasurable Heaven" in Hawaiian (by the way, there is something similar to Lalangamena - there is such a story and a collection of works of SF, if not read, I recommend).

The diameter of the supercluster section is 160 megaparsecs, which is several thousand times larger than the diameter of the Milky Way. And the mass of such formation is more than one hundred thousand times greater than the mass of our Galaxy. "Heaven" includes about 100 thousand galaxies.

For work, scientists used the largest catalog of galaxies, called Cosmicflows-2. Thanks to this resource and its database, it was possible to simulate a super -cluster based on information about the movement of thousands of galaxies belonging to Laniakea.

Experts note that there are many more galaxies in Laniakea than used in the model, but, unfortunately, even in such a full catalog as Cosmicflows-2 there are no data on thousands of other galaxies. Heaven coexists with four other superclusters known as Shapley, Hercules, Coma, and Perseus Pisces.
