Smartphone on the edge: Samsung Galaxy Edge with a new curved display

Among today's premieres, Samsung at the Berlin IFA 2014 exhibition was packed with a conceptually interesting Galaxy Note Edge model with a screen stretched to its end.

Since mankind has moved to mobile monoblocks with touchscreen, attempts to somehow change or improve this format have not ceased. We have already seen the curved LG and Samsung smartphones, and Yota two-screen smart phones showed them to someone. And now "Samsung" has released a phone with charming asymmetry in the form of a display that has been stuck to the right end of the screen.

I must say, the model looks more interesting than a typical Korean smartphone thanks to aluminum piping around the perimeter of the case. With the help of a curved screen, they tried to make it more functional:

The idea is that on the front of the screen you can display various notifications, statuses - in general, use it as a taskbar in Windows - including. even when fullscreen apps are running. And it will be possible to access them even when the main part of the display is off - to save energy. The number of applications of the outward side is limited only by the imagination of the developers - for example, they have already built a ten-centimeter ruler there.

In the rest of the characteristics as characteristics: the screen (in the flat part) with a diagonal of 5.6 “and a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. In the side display got another 2560x160 pixels. Filling a choice of quad (Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with a frequency of 2.7 GHz) or eight-core (Samsung Exynos 5433 with a frequency of 1.9 GHz) with three gigs of RAM in both. Built-in memory - 32/64 GB + slot for microSD cards. What is missing is USB 3.0 and FM radio. The weight of the smartphone is 174 grams, the battery capacity is 3000 mAh.

What do you think will take off?
