What people have replaced video recorders?

For a long time I was tormented by this question. Indeed, in fact, since the time of the widespread distribution of VHS and its subsequent demise, there has not yet appeared a universal and popular way to record a program from a TV. In the US, of course, all this time all kinds of TiVo and stb dvr were popular, but we didn’t have them. I have never seen a sane device that would replace the good old Vidak. To set a timer, or during the transfer, press record. DVDs in the living room (and later on blu ray) were distributed mostly as players only.

Certain extremals, of course, acquired satellite receivers with a hard disk (or flash memory?) And now, probably, cable operators also have such “set-top boxes”. Internet video, streaming or in the form of recorded broadcasts, of course, answers all the questions, but what do ordinary people do when, for example, their children are shown on TV or the telebrigade comes to the factory head of the family to interview? Somehow, not so long ago, I was asked to make a seizure of a program from a tv on a computer, and this was another quest. Some kind of plugins, codecs, and all in real time. Horror. Even complex recording programming interfaces on video recorders are just a child's play. I don’t believe that people no longer need to record something from the TV, but I don’t think how they do it.
