Comparison of cantilever torrent rockers with a web snout (part 1)

Recently, an “extra” computer appeared that wanted to use it as a file rocking from the Internet, and a test lab. And I faced the problem of choosing a torrent rocking chair that does not require X (server X). From the requirements it was necessary:

  1. the most important thing is the availability of a convenient web gui (I'm not the only one to use my server)
  2. so as not to be banned by servers - yes, there are such :)
  3. convenient, with the ability to work in daemon mode
  4. stable!

Well, in principle there are few requirements, the most important is the web snout. A little googling, found the following:
  1. Transmission http://www.transmissionbt.com/
  2. ctorrent http://ctorrent.sourceforge.net/
  3. rtorrent http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/
  4. BTG http://btg.berlios.de/
  5. TorrentFlux http://www.torrentflux.com/

Now let's do it with every detail.

1. Let's start with the Transmission. This is an independent development based on its library, it has builds under Mac OS X, and Linux itself on GTK +.

Transmission is written in C. It can work in daemon mode, which is exactly what I needed;). You can control it with the help of the transmission-remote utility that comes with it. The capabilities of the daemon are pretty simple:

For him, I found only one web snout called Clutch . To install it, you need PHP 5 installed, with support for sockets. The installation is quite simple, I threw it into the server folder, changed the rights to the Transmission socket, went to the server and voila, it all worked.

The possibilities are not great, as can be seen from the screenshot, you can add / delete a torrent file, pause, launch individual torrents, limit speed, view information about the torrent file. A big plus is that everything is written in JavaScript, so you do not need to overload the page;) very convenient. Although the functionality is small, it is almost always sufficient.

Pros of Transmission + Clutch:

Minuses:

Well, in general, a good client for a separate swing, which does not require a large functionality.

Well, on this the first part of the review is over;) Next time I’ll tell you about another client.

PS I myself am just using this bundle Transmission 1.10 + Clutch. Next week, if you like this one, I'll write about other rocking
