Samsung Unveils New Gear S Smart Watch and Gear Circle Headset

Good evening, Habr!

At the end of the week, Samsung Electronics unveiled Gear S , the company's next generation smart wearable device. The new gadget has got a curved Super AMOLED display and a flexible strap, so that the smart watch is conveniently located on the user's wrist. The key difference from the predecessors is the built-in 3G module and SIM card slot, with which the Samsung Gear S becomes quite an independent mobile device, although a bundle with a mobile phone remains available.

Samsung Gear S is equipped with a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 × 480 pixels, a dual-core processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal flash memory. All this stuff works on the basis of the Tizen operating system. The battery capacity is 300 mAh (the charge should be enough for two days of normal use), the dimensions of a smart watch are 39.8 × 58.3 × 12.5 mm. The Gear S model meets the IP67 standard for moisture and dust protection.

The smart watches have Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n wireless adapters and Bluetooth 4.1, a GPS / GLONASS navigation system receiver, an accelerometer, a gyroscope, an electronic compass, a barometer, light and UV sensors, and a heart rate sensor. Wearable device allows users to make calls over the cellular network, send and receive messages, as well as receive notifications from the social. networks, calendars and applications. The device easily switches between 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections depending on the user's needs, and the information is automatically synchronized when the smart watches are paired with a smartphone.

As it should be for this type of device, Samsung Gear S has the potential for sports and health care. Owners will be able to use their smart watches as a fitness tracker in conjunction with the Samsung S Health or Nike + Running app, and the HERE navigation system will not let the user get lost in unfamiliar terrain.
