Intel introduced its first 8-core processor for desktop computers

The American company introduced its first eight-core processor for desktop computers. The chip is called Intel Core i7-5960XExtremeEdition.

Intel claims that the new processor will be in demand by hardware lovers, gamers and content developers - in general, by those users who need maximum performance. The new chip supports 16 computing threads, and can also work with the new X99 chipset and support DDR4 memory.

The top chip in the Core i7-5960X line, in addition to 16 threads, has 20 megabytes of cache, has a frequency of 3.0 GHz, and accelerates to 3.5 GHz in a special turbo mode. This processor will cost $ 999.

In addition, Intel introduced a 6-core processor models with the possibility of increasing the clock frequency - the Core i7-5930K chip has 6 cores (12 computing threads), 15MB caches and 40 PCIe 3.0 channels. The base clock frequency will be 3.5 GHz (in turbo mode up to 3.7 GHz), and the cost will be at $ 583. Another i7-5820K chip is also six-core (12 streams), 15 MB cache, but only 28 PCle 3.0 channels - its frequency is 3.3 GHz (3.6 GHz in turbo mode) - the price is $ 389.

In addition, the chips can dynamically change their own clock frequency to conserve energy, and when the situation requires it, the same turbo mode is activated. All these processors are “unlocked”, which means users can overclock them on their own:

Intel representatives claim that using the Core i7-5960X chip allows editing professional 4K video 20% faster than working with other processors, besides, with the new chip, rendering 3D graphics speeds up by 32% and rendering physical Objects in games occurs 14% faster.

The start of sales of new processors is scheduled for next week in the US.
