Several of the world's largest manufacturers of LCD screens -
Samsung ,
Sharp ,
NEC ,
AU Optronics ,
LG Philips and
Chi Mei Optoelectronics - are suspected, according to
Ars Tecnica , of a cartel agreement to prevent a fall in prices for their products. The trade commissions of Japan and Korea, as well as the US Department of Justice, are actively investigating this matter. These companies, on suspicion of the authorities, created an artificial shortage in the market.
Representatives of LG Philips and Samsung have already been summoned to the court on the agenda last week. Sources in these companies say that the proceedings are going around their activities in the TFT display market. The technology used in them is the most common and is used in almost all types of electronic devices.
Sony head Stan Glasgow (Stan Glasgow) recently spoke to reporters and
voiced information about a very rapid fall in LCD prices - 25-30% for 2006. Interestingly, Sony and
Matsushita Electric Co. , which also occupy a leading position in the LCD market, have not received any complaints.
