Oculus Rift and STEM make lightsabers a reality

Well, only the reality of the virtual, you know. The presentation of the Sixense STEM system took place the other day, where it is shown what can happen if you combine motion controllers with the Oculus Rift.

And it turns out very realistic similarity of light swords from "Star Wars", with the same color, sound and smell in size. This sword can beat off objects flying into the player, and carry out other actions provided for by the creators of such virtual reality.

STEM was developed by Sixense as a new gaming platform for video games. A player can use five motion controllers, each of which performs specific functions. In addition to the controllers themselves, you can see in virtual reality your hands, which are monitored by the system (by the controllers themselves).

As you can see, the gamer took two controllers, after which the system immediately recognized the position of the player’s hands, and displayed them in virtual reality.

The STEM System is an open system for which the company has prepared an SDK (for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux). So third-party developers can easily create something of their own, increasing the overall functionality of the system.

In general, everything is fine here, except, perhaps, prices (well, everything is not good). A STEM with two controllers costs $ 299, three - 389.99, and five - 579.99.
