Samsung Galaxy K Zoom: tested in humans

The new camera phone - Samsung Galaxy K Zoom - can not be called a "revolutionary device." After all, the story called “let's attach to the“ android ”lens” began two years ago, with the release of the Samsung Galaxy Camera. Then the company imbued with the spirit of experimentation and from mid-2013 released three more hybrid devices - the Galaxy S4 Zoom camera phone, the Galaxy NX mirrorless camera and the second Galaxy Camera version. Well, finally, at the very beginning of the summer, the K Zoom was officially introduced.

People who speak with a camera are already treated more calmly - the brave souls in their hands took the whole brunt of themselves at one time. This is what we mean, if you suffer from attention deficit, the K Zoom is unlikely to be able to help you. And do not try to understand for whom this device? - If you ask such a question, the K Zoom is definitely not for you.

Nevertheless, you can try to determine the audience of users of the novelty - in our opinion, this is a device for people who do not want to part with the camera 24 hours a day. And at the same time to enjoy the process - after all, there are only three use modes under it.

If you compare K Zoom with S4 Zoom as smartphones (and this comparison cannot be avoided), then literally everything is better in the new product - more powerful processor, more RAM, higher screen resolution. The upgrade is really felt - lags and bugs in the work of the device are rare and unobtrusive. Yes, and benchmarks confirm the evolution of the smartphone.







External changes are also noticeable - a removable cover with a la Galaxy S5 cover, no case thickening under the arm, zoom rings and a tripod jack. Taking into account the resizing - the screen has increased by half an inch - the K Zoom looks somewhat sleeker than its predecessor. We do not specifically evaluate the appearance of the novelty, since both form factors are interesting each in their own way. We only note that the K Zoom is a clear step in the direction of the usual, smartphone design.





As for the camera, everything is ambiguous. In fact, only the number of megapixels has changed in the new product - the parameter has changed from 16 to 20.7 - and as you know, this is often the only marketing “chip” today. The sensor size (1 / 2.3 "), optical stabilizer and 10x zoom, which, admittedly, is unique for this segment of devices - there are no changes, the Galaxy S4 Zoom was all the same.





In other words, you will not see any increase in quality when taking a photo - it is acceptable, but subjectively lower than that of many flagship smartphones.

Thanks to the powerful optical zoom and manual settings, you can take dynamic pictures - when shooting this photo, you used the maximum magnification.


On contrasting scenes, autofocus does not always work correctly. Attempt to focus on dandelion failed.


Optical zoom again allows you to capture scenes like this. At the same time throughout the field image remains sharp.


Galaxy K Zoom has excellent color rendering - no photo editors have been used here.

Galaxy K Zoom is perfect for those who like to shoot landscapes - excellent color rendition, powerful zoom, good dynamic range.

Of the interesting modes - quick start from the locked state (simultaneously press "camera" and "lower volume"), the ability to focus and metering at different points, shooting Full HD video at 60 frames per second, manual mode - with the ability to adjust sensitivity, shutter speed and aperture. There is also a vent for self-maniacs - Selfie Alarm mode greatly simplifies shooting yourself to the main K Zoom camera.











Let's sum up. On the one hand, the Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is a rather interesting device, with a powerful filling and a good photo module - many gadzhetomany are unlikely to be able to pass by this novelty. On the other hand, we would advise people demanding to purchase two devices separately - a smartphone and a digital photo compact.

A long-term photography will put the K Zoom battery in a matter of hours, a small amount of internal memory, a screen made using PenTile technology (by the way, yes!) - not all are frightened by these minuses. But the price - from 21 thousand rubles - can greatly influence the decision to purchase, especially since the S4 Zoom is now really to be found for 10 thousand.

However, it is impossible to call this model a failure - yet there is a change for the better. The paradox, however, is that the ideal is still far away. And, in principle, probably unattainable.
