Two films about nuclear engines

Already after the publication of the post about nuclear engines, they sent me a link to an interesting film about Soviet engines. He perfectly complemented the well-known film about American engines, to which I made Russian subtitles. I present this pair of films to your attention.

American film

The film is dated 1968. Solid nauchpop, explanations are quite simple and clear. The film tells about:
  1. The advantages of nuclear engines for astronautics.
  2. The design of the nuclear engine.
  3. Testing engines KIWI and NERVA.

1968 is the pinnacle of nuclear engine development in the United States. But there are already some doubts in the Senate about the need for spending big money on space, which ultimately will lead to a reduction in funding for the Apollo program (cancellation of the Apollo 18, -19, -20 missions) and the actual cessation of funding for the nuclear engine development program. The NERVA project will be closed in 1972-1973.
I especially liked the film that does not hide the complexity of the development. Unsuccessful tests are calmly shown and it is told about the need for improvements and improvement of the engine.

Domestic film

Judging by indirect signs (translation of the text, contact details of the development companies, style of music and font) made in the late 80s - early 90s. Probably, it was used as a demonstration when trying to establish contacts with foreign firms, therefore, it is more difficult to perceive an unprepared viewer. The film tells about:
  1. The design of the nuclear engine RD-0410.
  2. Testing models of the engine, reactor and other components

According to the KBKhA website, fire tests on the motor mode were conducted in 1978-1981, on the energy regime - in 1987-1991. Most likely the film belongs to the second stage of testing.
