Ethan Zuckerman was a designer and programmer at Tripod.com web hosting when one car company was shocked by the ads on the page. Someone simply bought a banner on the page and placed a sexual ad there. Of course, few people will like the association of the auto salesman and ads of this kind.
Tripod had a solution: what if advertising will pop up not on the page, but in a separate window? Zuckerman wrote the code for the first pop-up advertising window. And since then, for many years it was impossible to take a step on the network without viewing such an advertisement.
Until now, you can find wild-pop pop-ups in the most run-down parts of the Internet. Thanks to Netscape and Opera, that they first came up with blockers for pop-up windows and used them in their products.
