The cellular operator Sonic Duo has introduced the technology of high-speed data transfer EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for Global Evolution) throughout the MegaFon-Moscow network coverage in the metropolitan area.
EDGE technology allows you to transfer data at speeds up to 200 kbps, the company said. On average, this is four times the GPRS transfer rate. Services of wireless Internet access, MMS and e-mail delivery, mobile TV, WAP work better and cost as much as GPRS-based services.
The test operation of the system began in January 2005, and by September 2006 all base stations in Moscow were transferred to EDGE. “In terms of the implementation of EDGE, Moscow has become the largest“ mobile ”city in Europe and is among the five largest megacities in the world covered by this technology,” the company said in a press release.
