Down with trinkets - 5 useful things in life that can be printed in 3D

In the photo you see the figures printed in Berlin on January 7, 2013. The print is made from original models obtained by 3D scanning using Gismo technology at the conference “Raumfahrtagentur hacker space”

We recently heard a story about a young man who printed a prosthesis for a friend who does not have fingers on one hand. Using a 3D printer and ready-made models from Thingiverse , 16-year-old Meissen Wilde was able to create a suitable artificial hand for free.

Thingiverse is an online community and exchange platform supported by 3D printing company Makerbot. Here you can share electronic models of almost everything that your heart desires - from toy figures to birdhouses. In this case, all models are free and distributed as open source. Thanks to this, Meissen was able to easily fit and print the prosthesis for his 9-year-old friend Matthew.

Many of the models presented in the catalog are just trinkets, some are simply not practical. But there are impressive specimens that may well change our lives a little.

We found and selected five of the most interesting and useful models, which can be downloaded from Thingiverse and printed independently:

  1. A 3D model of a bottle with a screw cap - yes, this is really an ordinary plastic bottle. Despite the obvious simplicity, the model may be the most useful in everyday life;

  2. Crossfire 2 - ready-made design self-assembled drone. You can print out all the elements of the frame and additional equipment for free, although you will have to find the camera and the engines yourself. A good alternative to ready-made drone with a four-digit value;

  3. Left hand robot InMoov . This is the so-called animatronic, robotic controlled arm. An excellent example of a combination of 3D printing technology and robotics. Even despite some of the impracticality of today, projects like this are the first signs of full-fledged self-assembly robots. It can be useful for filmmakers, robotics and enthusiasts around the world. InMoov already has a whole catalog of animatronics and accessories for them;

  4. Feeder for birds . What could be simpler, right? But a simple trough may well be one of those 3D projects that are more interesting to mess with than with a computer. In addition, this is one of the few ideas of three-dimensional printing, which can cause interest in computers even from your grandfather;

  5. Clasp . Everyone probably knows these plastic buckles on backpacks and suitcases - do they still break often? Now you will have the opportunity at any time to print yourself any number of new ones.

By the way, if you have not yet acquired a 3D printer, we invite you to the Madrobots store. We have everything you need for 3D printing.
