Free CryptoLocker file decryption

The malicious program CryptoLocker belongs to the category of so-called "extortionists". It encrypts files on the hard disk and requires a ransom payment before downloading the secret key from the server to decrypt the files. However, since yesterday, users can do without payment: antivirus companies FireEye and Fox-IT jointly launched the DecryptCryptoLocker service to decrypt files that CryptoLocker has encrypted for free.

As a result of the operation, FireEye and Fox-IT managed to get a large number of secret keys that CryptoLocker uses to encrypt files. On the above site, users can use these keys to “release” their documents without paying remuneration to extortionists.

The decryption procedure begins with the fact that the user must select some encrypted file that does not contain important information. It needs to be uploaded to the DecryptCryptoLocker server. In this case, you should specify the postal address to which the secret key will be sent to decrypt the files.

Then you should download the Decryptolocker.exe utility and wait for the secret key to be received via email. After that, you need to run a command like this:

Decryptolocker.exe –key “<key>” <Lockedfile.doc>

Since there are a large number of CryptoLocker options on the Internet, the new service cannot guarantee the performance for all of them, but for most of the options it still works.
