Computers will merge with people by 2020: Microsoft research

After 12 years, the need for keyboards, mice and even computer monitors will disappear - in the form in which they are now. Moreover, the very concepts of “user” and “interface” will become meaningless archaisms. This forecast is contained in a new science fiction study commissioned by Microsoft. We are talking about revolutionary changes in human-computer interaction technologies (Human-Computer Interaction, HCI). The study itself is called “Being Human: Human-Computer Interaction in the year 2020” .

The keyboards and mice will be replaced by touchscreens and speech recognition systems. Interaction with computers will reach a qualitatively new level, and now the first steps have been taken in this direction. Technologies like Microsoft Surface can become mainstream in a decade.



A new generation of people will interact with computers as naturally as we are talking now. It is not necessary for a person to even be aware of the presence of a computer, as we are not aware of the presence of speech organs during the conversation.
