Second hdd instead of dvd drive in laptop

After installing ssd instead of hdd in my laptop, I began to experience a catastrophic shortage of space on the first one. Buying a sata-usb adapter made it possible to expand your library with an old hdd. A couple of months passed and this option stopped me arranging, namely, I was tired of carrying this “apendix” with me, and the speed left much to be desired. After some time, I came across a series of articles about installing a second disk using the ESPADA adapter. This miracle device with a second disc was inserted in place of the native DVD drive and delighted users. A search in electronics stores led to the realization that this device was a luxury to me. Price from 800r from us, from $ 6 in China. Next, on Habré, I found articles on self-reworking the DVD drive for installing the second disc, but I was sorry to break the drive for such experiments and it began here ... The killed hdd, sata-chip, molex-sata from the old PSU was taken.

Just in my apartment there was a repair and it was full of tools for “fitting” some parts for my idea.

With the help of the grinder (LBM), the sata connector was modified to Slimline SATA.

On the supply side, 5 contact pads were left and other areas we did not need were cut down.

By removing unnecessary pads, in total, I got the connector I needed, just like in a DVD drive.

In advance on the Internet was found the pinout scheme of contacts.

Armed with a soldering iron and a reserve of patience, the whole thing was soldered to the SATA adapter (ODA) -> SATA (HDD).

I poured all the usual glue for shoes (well, I don’t have hot melt glue) and shook tape over it, I got quite aesthetic looking wiring. After waiting for the glue to dry, I began to try to collect the whole thing. HDD I taped double sided tape, thereby creating a "pillow".

All connected and tightly inserted into the inside.

Having crossed my fingers I turn on the laptop and immediately run into the bios.

Hooray! WDC determined.

I load the system and everything is fine.

Joy and pride have no limits! It turns out how easy it is to connect with a minimum of costs a second disk to a laptop.
