Origami Aircraft and Radio Control: PowerUP 3.0 Project Goes Into People

Back in December last year, news about the PowerUp 3.0 project was published on Habré, which allows you to turn any paper airplane into a radio-controlled device capable of keeping it in the air for about 10 minutes (while there is enough battery power).

The project, which was created by the American Shay Goyteyn, a pilot with 25 years of experience, very quickly collected the necessary amount of Kickstarter (more than a million dollars instead of 50 thousand). And now the kit for turning a paper airplane into a radio-controlled plane has already gone on sale. Moreover, the pilot also added the possibility of turning a paper boat into a full-fledged radio-controlled toy.

All you need to do is:

1. Make a paper airplane (the author of the project attaches to the kit even instructions on how to fold different airplanes);
2. Attach the appropriate module with special clips to the axis of the aircraft;
3. Install and run a special smartphone application (free);
4. We launch a paper airplane with our hand, and begin to control our fighter / attack aircraft, simply tilting the smartphone.

In general, there is one weak link in this all algorithm - the creation of a paper airplane. You know yourself, a plane is a plane, and some paper aircraft fly very well, while others have suicidal tendencies, and after launching they immediately plow the expanses of the Universe with their nose. To prevent this from happening, the author encloses instructions for folding the airplane out of a piece of paper.

You can control the airplane at a distance of up to 55 meters.

It is clear that the airplane will fall, not just once or twice, and it would be a shame to lose the control axle with all the details after the first flight, right? The author of the project took care of the impact resistance of his product, and defended everything he could: there is a shock-resistant bumper, plus the base is made of carbon fiber.

The control interface of the airplane is quite simple, the program is not overloaded with details:

As you can see, you can track the battery charge level, the distance to our aircraft, the angle of inclination and some other data.

The control element is equipped with a 1000 mAh battery, which lasts for about 10 minutes of flight, as mentioned above.

Understanding Bluetooth ™ wireless technology

The control application is released for iOS and Android 4.3 and higher.

Price and order

As mentioned, the developer produces several sets of airplanes and ships, so there is something to choose from.

The basic kit can be ordered in Russia from Medgadgets for 1900 rubles.

Or, such a kit can be ordered from the developer . Prices for the main set and additional (from the developer) can be found here:
