Amazon has become a domain name registrar.

July 31, Amazon Web Services announced the big news in their DNS service Route 53.

What exactly has Amazon prepared?

Domain Name Registration
Now you can purchase a domain name directly from the AWS console. When you purchase new domains through Route 53, your domains will automatically be configured to work with the service, while private registration (private WHOIS) will be enabled by default. It will also be easier to manage your expenses, since the bill for the acquired domains will be available along with other resources in your general account (consolidated billing). Route 53 will offer a choice of more than 150 top-level domains (TLDs), including the most popular .com, .net, .org, and .info and regional top-level domains, including .co.uk, .de, .tv, and. com.au.

GeoDNS geo-routing
Now in Route 53 there will be a balancing of requests depending on the geographical location of clients. GeoDNS will allow users to offer localized content, offering pages in the desired language or restricting access to certain resources (hello to copywriters!). It will also be possible to have simple and predictable load balancing with the guarantee that each location will send its traffic to a certain point of presence.
Amazon's GeoDNS granularity is also striking: traffic distribution by continent, country, and state / state will be available. GeoDNS can be combined with other methods of balancing, such as Latency Based Routing and DNS Failover.

Lower prices for DNS queries
From August 1, prices for standard and requests based on delay (Latency Based) are reduced by 20%. As before, requests for alias entries pointing to Elastic Load Balancers, Amazon CloudFront, and Amazon S3 buckets remain free.

It remains to add that the guys from Amazon Web Services are really great, and remain cloud pioneers (despite the numerous problems in their work). Now they have become a very serious player among the registrars and have strengthened their positions among DNS hosts.

PS We expect the emergence of another "Corporation of Good"? ;)
