XBMC Media Player Renamed to Kodi

Many people are familiar with the famous XBMC media player and use it. This media combine is almost omnivorous in terms of formats, there is support for most desktop and mobile platforms (Windows, Linux, OSX, Android, iOS, ATV2, Raspberry Pi). Many consider it one of the best media players.
The program has a twelve-year history, during which she changed three names already, although the changes were more cosmetic. And a few days ago there was news that the player will change the name to a completely new, now it will be called Kodi.

XBMC stands for Xbox Media Center, but this program is no longer available under Xbox directly. In addition, there is a misunderstanding on the part of the consumer, people are confused by the presence of the word Xbox in the title, because of this there have already been various confusions. This is the first reason for changing the name.
The second reason is copyright. Still, developers do not have a license to use the word Xbox in the title, therefore you can not even register the corresponding trademark.
Therefore, it was decided to change the name to something that would solve all the existing problems. At the same time, the functionality of the program will be preserved, and even the order of the versions will not be broken, the next after XBMC 13 will be Kodi 14. At the same time, it is planned to change the site address.

Personally, this title is a bit unusual for me, but I think that in the near future everyone will take it for granted, and practically the best Kodi cross-platform media player will last for many more years.
