Four years ago, on August 1, 2010, the gift service on Facebook was already closed. Then they explained it by the need to focus on other areas - games, news, likes and the like.

In fact, apparently, this service was not particularly popular with users, although it would seem that Chinese social networks earn well on gifts, and our Odnoklassniki also have the overwhelming majority of revenue from sales of virtual gifts .

Meanwhile, the IPO was nearing, and the closer Facebook came to this event, the sooner he needed to be shown what he was going to earn in the future. Apparently, therefore, in May 2012, Facebook acquired a startup, Karma, which specialized in sending gifts to the USA, and used data from Facebook for its work. At the same time, the startup essentially began work only in February 2012 and at that time he had 16 employees. The acquisition cost, as it was written in some blogs, 80 million dollars, and in September 2012, Facebook Gifts service was opened on the basis of Karma.

A “sociality” and everything else necessary for success was added. But, apparently, something went wrong again, and in August 2013 the opportunity to send physical gifts was discontinued. There were only virtual gifts. And now, from August 12 of this year, the Facebook Gifts service closes completely. This time they say that they want to provide an opportunity for different companies to sell products themselves using Facebook, and for this there is no need for Facebook itself to be an online store.
