Announced by Nokia Lumia 530

The new generation of Lumia smartphones (Windows Phone 8.1 based smartphones) continues to grow with new models. The other day, an entry-level smartphone came out, which became the most affordable device on WP 8.1 in the Microsoft Mobile portfolio - Nokia Lumia 530. The expected cost of the ideological follower Lumia 520, whose global sales amounted to more than 12 million copies, on the Russian market will be less than 5,000 rubles.

In this post we have tried to figure out what makes a new smartphone good from both the user's point of view and the developer's point of view.

As we have already mentioned above, the Nokia Lumia 530 works on the basis of Windows Phone 8.1 with the update of Nokia Cyan . Despite the low price, all features of this OS will be available to users. And this includes the WordFlow keyboard , the Notification Center, universal applications , IE11 with HTML5 support and (until only after switching the region to the USA - with ensuing consequences) Cortana personal assistant.

The OS integrates Microsoft services, including Skype and Microsoft Office. Close integration with Yandex and VKontakte is also expected on the Russian market: for example, the new version of the official VK client already offers the possibility of adding contacts to the People hub.

The official file manager, which received the simple name "Files", became available. It has the traditional functionality of its type of program: it allows you to find and access files stored in the phone’s memory or on an SD card, copy, move, rename, delete and share them, as well as create folders and organize files by them.

Among other things, with the advent of Windows Phone 8.1, APIs have become available that allow developers to integrate file management functions into any of their applications. You can read more about this here in the “File Access and File Selector” section.

But back to the specifications. The novelty has a good price / performance ratio. Lumia 530 received a 4-inch display with FWVGA — resolution (854 x 480 pixels) and density of 246 pixels / inch.

The case traditionally for Nokia smartphones successfully combines a minimalist design and bright colors. In the Russian market, devices will be available with replaceable panels of orange, white and gray. Like the Lumia 630, control is displayed on the touch screen, and the only physical buttons are for locking and volume control. Dimensions of new items are 119.7 x 62.3 x 11.7 mm and weighs 129 grams.

The heart of the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 single-chip platform consisting of a 1.2 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor and an Adreno 302 graphics accelerator. Despite the fact that the internal memory is 8 GB, users can expand it with a microSD card up to 128 GB ( !) In addition to the internal space, all users will be provided with 15 GB of cloud in OneDrive for storing documents, photos and other things.

The amount of RAM is 512 MB, but for WP 8.1 this is not a problem - colleagues from Microsoft reviewed the consumption of RAM and great optimized the work of the OS. For devices with a small amount of RAM, most applications and games from the Windows store are currently available.

Note: If you, as a developer, think about whether to adapt your own application for devices with less than 1GB of RAM. It will be helpful for you to know that devices such as the Lumia 520, Lumia 530 and Lumia 630 are the best-selling ones, having a significant market share worldwide. This trend will clearly continue in the future. In order to optimize your own application, read this guide on MSDN.

The main (and only) camera in the Lumia 530 is equipped with a 1/4 inch matrix with a resolution of 5 megapixels. Supported camera aperture number / aperture - f / 2.4; focal length of the camera - 28 mm; minimum focusing distance - 60 cm.

Like Lumia 630 , the smartphone will be presented in two versions: with support for one and two SIM-cards. Both versions support 2G / 3G networks, as well as data transfer via Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n and Bluetooth 4.0 protocols.

By the way, the implementation of work with two SIM-cards in Lumia smartphones is a separate reason for our pride. Since the time of the Mesozoic, many devices with two SIM-cards had one antenna and worked on the principle of simultaneous availability of each of them only in standby mode. When calling, the inactive SIM card became unavailable, and users could miss an important call. Lumia smartphones also use a single antenna, but calls are handled by forwarding. If you receive a call to an inactive number during a call, it will be automatically forwarded to an available SIM card.

Support for GPS and GLONASS (and, just in case, the Chinese BeiDou) in combination with the free navigation application HERE Drive + allow you to use your smartphone as a standalone navigation device (of course, you need to remember to download the maps you need).

The operating time of the device with a 1430 mAh battery in standby mode is 22 days in talk mode and 10 and 13.4 hours in talk mode in 3G and 2G networks, respectively.

In addition to the smartphone, the active Bang mini-speaker from the manufacturer of audio gadgets Coloud was also presented at an estimated price of $ 25.

Plug-in with a standard 3.5 mm audio output speaker capable of playing music for up to eight hours without the need for recharging. It is noteworthy that if you wish, you can connect several speakers in series.

On sale Coloud Bang will appear soon.
