Another YouTube Incident in the Islamic World

Once again, a conflict between the Internet service YouTube and the Islamic public has matured. This time, the “Islamic question” rose sharply in Indonesia. On April 8, Indonesia’s providers banned access to YouTube, MySpace , Google Video and other file sharing services.

The reason is the posting on the sites of the anti-Islamic film Fitna. The film was created by Dutch politician Geert Wilders (Geert Wilders), a 15-minute video contains quotes from the Koran, skillfully superimposed on the video series, containing excerpts from the filming of the terrorist attacks of 2001 in the US and 2004 in Madrid.

Protests over the appearance of the film in the public domain were expressed by many Arab countries, as well as by the UN Secretary General, and, oddly enough, the authorities of Holland.

It seems that the case of blocking the Internet service YouTube in Indonesia will rise in a number of similar cases. Last year, the Thai authorities blocked access to YouTube for as long as four months because of the video insulting the local monarch. In February of this year, the "ban" was kindly provided by the authorities of Pakistan (again, the "Islamic issue"), and did not count the blockages by China and Turkey.
