The Head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media proposed Apple and SAP to disclose their source codes to Russian specialists.

At a meeting with Apple's regional director for Russia, Peter Engrob, and SAP CEO in the CIS, Vyacheslav Orekhov, the head of the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov invited companies to disclose the source codes of their products to Russian specialists.

The Minister informed the representatives of Apple and SAP about the cooperation program of the FSUE “Atlas” Scientific and Technical Center (refers to the Ministry of Communications and Mass Media) and some foreign software suppliers, in particular, to Microsoft. As part of this project, Russian state experts began to gain access to the source codes of the entire line of popular Microsoft software products in 2003. “Such a cooperation program allows Russian specialists to quickly study new versions of software for the presence of undeclared capabilities and promptly prepare them for certification for use in secure information systems,” the website of the Ministry of Communications informs .

“The revelations of Edward Snowden in 2013 and the public statements of the US special services about strengthening the surveillance of Russia in 2014 seriously raised the issue of trust in foreign software and hardware,” says Nikiforov. “It is obvious that those companies that disclose the source code of their programs do not hide anything, but those who do not intend to establish cooperation with Russia in this matter may have undeclared capabilities in their products.”
