Ruby on Rails 10 years old

The first public release of Rails 0.5.0 took place on July 24, 2004 , almost exactly ten years ago. This day is considered the official birthday, so yesterday it was possible to celebrate the anniversary.

Although Danish programmer David Heinemeier Hansson (dhh), the author of the popular framework, believes that it can be officially celebrated at the RailsConf conference.

Hansson, for creating Rails, was named OSCON in 2005 as the “hacker of the year”, and in 2006, according to the magazine Business 2.0, entered the list of the 50 most significant people in the Web 2.0 sphere. And this is well deserved. Over 10 years, Rails has made more than 600,000 sites , including such popular projects as Twitter, GitHub, Scribd, Basecamp, Groupon, Hulu, Shopify, Yammer, etc.

We can say that it was through Rails that the Ruby language entered into mass use.

Interestingly, in terms of search trends , Rails is most popular in the following countries: 1) India; 2) Belarus; 3) United States; 4) Russia. It is a little sad that the peak of popularity fell on 2006-07, since then it has been falling. But the reason to note is still there!
