"Holographic" displays for smartphones may appear in a couple of years

Most of us tried to strain our eyes, looking at the "three-dimensional" pictures, adjusted to red-blue or polarized glasses in cinemas, some used 3d-TVs, some even made 3d-glasses from a smartphone.
But how great it would be to see a three-dimensional image without any effort and additional devices!
Ostendo Technologies in July 2014 demonstrated the fruits of nine years of work - three-dimensional “holographic” microprojectors .

It is argued that one projector on a chip (small, suitable for embedding in a smartphone) can project an image on a surface with a diagonal of more than 120 cm. Several chips can create larger and more complex images.

On a recent test, Ostendo demonstrated an image of a playing dice using six micro-projectors. Eyewitnesses claim that the image was clearly visible regardless of the position of the observer.
The hologram effect is achieved due to the ability of projectors to produce different images depending on the viewing angle.
The chip contains about a million 5x10 microns pixels that have R, G, and B layers, as well as a blue micro-LED, each with its own microprocessor. Such a "multi-core" allows you to process images in real time, because pictures should be rendered for each of the 2500 stated perspectives (viewpoints).
Each pixel emits a narrow light beam. The resulting effect creators called the "light field".

The company and Leia (yes, presumably in honor of the very princess) went the other way - they are trying to arrange a specially made multifaceted glass in front of the LCD display, so that it redirects the light from different diodes in different directions. True, this method provides only 64 different points of view. In my opinion, we all saw a similar effect on live calendars.

I think the porn industry and the marketing industry are already biting their nails.
