Mapcode - the simple and short address of any place on Earth

As they say, over the years, the planet decreases. About 500 years ago, in unknown territories, maps wrote "dragons live here." About 200 years ago there were still white spots on the planet.

Now we have GPS, Internet and Google Maps, and the planet no longer seems so big.

Well and the address could also be reduced. Instead of "country, region, city, street, house" and instead of long chains of digit coordinates, something like a short url.

There is such a possibility - this is a replacement for coordinates and addresses called Mapcode . For example, the address of the telecentre at Korolev, 12 is JC.B4J. GUM's address is JF.XG.

And so on.

It is recommended to specify the address with the country. For example, the coordinates of the entrance to the elevator of the Eiffel Tower: France 4J.Q2.

Mapcode is already supported by car navigators. Agree, it is much more convenient than entering the address or coordinates on a small display.

Mapcode was developed in 2001 by TomTom, which manufactures car navigators, and in 2008 they decided to make them public domain.
