Sensibo can make any air conditioner "smart"

Sensibo is a small device developed by a small Israeli company. This device, according to the authors of the project, allows, for example, to lower the temperature of the apartment before the owner got home from work.

In addition, Sensibo helps reduce energy consumption by turning off the air conditioner if there is no one in the room for a long time. Also, the device allows you to control the air conditioner via the Internet when using your own application.

Appearance and installation

As can be seen in the photo, Sensibo is a miniature device that needs to be fixed on the surface of the air conditioner (any model is suitable, including floor air conditioners, split-systems and everything else).

Sensibo consists of two parts - the mounting base and the device itself. The basis fastens on the conditioner by means of special "flypaper". The developers promise that this velcro allows you to attach the device to any type of surface, and keeps it all then “dead”.

The air conditioner control system consists of two parts: the Sensibo itself, and a switch that connects the device to the Internet (via a Wi-Fi router), plus it provides connection to several air conditioners in the house / apartment / office at once. Provided, however, that for each air conditioner purchased its own module (there are different sets with a different number of control modules).

Immediately it should be said that the air conditioning can be controlled and the old remote control, if there is such a desire. The device works “out of the box”, its creators have included a standard set of “console” commands, thanks to which the device is compatible with almost all air conditioners, as mentioned above.

What's inside?

The main module contains several sensors, including a temperature sensor, a humidity meter (relative), an iBeacon sensor, a detector for fan operation inside the air conditioner, a light detector, an IR receiver (this is the infrared channel used to control Sensibo).

The developers chose the CC2538 as the main MCU that operates on the 802.15.4 RF standard with the 6LoWPAN protocol. The secondary MCU is Texas Instrument's CC2541 with Bluetooth Low Energy and iBeacon support.

In addition, the developers have placed in this case also two CR123A batteries (lasting up to three years).

Functionality

Sensibo works on a pair with a smartphone that has its own device application installed. Applications are created for iOS, Android and even for Pebble.

This application not only allows you to control the air conditioner from your smartphone, as with a D / U remote (this is the minimum), but also uses the capabilities of the smartphone to determine the user's current activity, location, proximity to home and so on. All this in order, for example, to cool the room more strongly for a person who came by bicycle from the office than for a person who arrived on his air-conditioned car.

With the help of Sensibo, the user can achieve from the air conditioner (as already mentioned, anyone, the main condition is the ability to control the model of the air conditioner remote control) with the following:

For third-party developers, the authors of the project opened an API with rich features (device sensor control, receiver control, iBeacon status determination, and much more).

Price and order

The cost of the device with early pre-order will be $ 99 (1 control module and connector), $ 169 (2 modules and switch) ... $ 376 (5 modules and switch). After the device goes into mass production, the price will be $ 159, $ 239 and the same $ 376, respectively. The developer kit (1 module, 1 switch and API) costs $ 199.

You can pre-order directly from the developer , or leave a request for notification of receipt of the gadget from here .
