MPAA achieved Popcorn Time forks removal with GitHub

On Habré already wrote about Popcorn Time , and also that the application site very quickly closed , and the program developers began to disappear from view, one by one. In general, there is nothing mystical here: the film industry is constantly struggling with “pirates” and sympathizers with them, investing hundreds of millions of dollars in this struggle.

So far, copies of Popcorn Time often manifested themselves, and the source code of the application and its analogues were freely placed on GitHub. But now everything has changed. Just a couple of days ago, all Popcorn Time analog apps disappeared from GitHub.

As mentioned above, all the forks of the official application have been removed. But here's a paradox: the original project still remained untouched on GitHub. It is somehow strange to see how everything connected with “Popcorn” has been removed, but the original, to which copyright advocates should show heightened interest, has remained.

However, the websites of the projects deleted from GitHub are still working, and no problems have been noticed. A team of one of the most popular forkov project, Time4Popcorn, announced tens of thousands of downloads of the application per day.

Perhaps the next step of the MPAA will be the project sites? It will be seen in the near future.
