Microsoft warns of the expiration of the main support for popular versions of Windows

The main support period for Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2003 and other products expires in six months.

The second half of 2014 began and Microsoft decided to “roll out” customers with expiring main support for some key products, including all versions of Windows 7. The main support period is usually 5 years, during which the company provides free patches and fixes, as for security , and in terms of functionality. At the end of this period, Microsoft provides extended support for another 5 years, during which security fixes are also free, and all other fixes require special (paid) licenses. After the extended support period is over, Microsoft does not provide any updates, neither paid, nor free, neither in security nor in functionality (although there are still ways for Windows XP users (including bypass - approx. Translation) to get updates). , despite the complete end of support).

On January 13, 2015, the main support period ends for all versions of Windows 7 (Enterprise, Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate and Starter) and the corresponding versions with Service Pack 1 installed. In essence, this means that Microsoft does not plan to release Service Pack 2 for Windows 7. I recall that the period of extended support for Windows 7 will expire on January 14, 2020. Some experts believe that Microsoft may shift the end date for Windows 7 support, given its popularity, but so far there have been no official statements from Microsoft on this.

January 13, 2015 also expires with a period of basic support for all versions of Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2, as well as for all versions of Windows Storage Server 2008.

In July 2015, the extended support period for Windows Server 2003 expires, i.e. This product will be fully written off as with Windows XP (with the exception of situations when the client has entered into a Custom Support Agreement). Given the fact that many small companies still use Windows Server 2003, Microsoft plans to convince them to migrate to Windows Server 2012 or Azure. According to Microsoft experts, it takes about 200 days to carry out such a migration, so the software giant calls for scratching the head now.

Also, the support period ends for Office 2010 with Service Pack 1 (October 2014); you need to upgrade to Service Pack 2 in order to receive further updates.
