Long ago, in one of the Moscow institutes, the following experiment was conducted. Four student groups were given the same lecture passage. In the first group, “for reliability,” we read it four times. In the second - three times, but once the students told it. In the third - two readings and two retellings, in the fourth - once they read and retold three times. The difference in the assimilation of the material was so striking that the conclusion was made unambiguous: “ Repeated (and repeated) reading of the material is a waste of time. For effective memorization, it is important to actively repeat (retell) the material. ”Re-reading does not require exertion of forces, because in the process of it“ recognition ”of familiar material occurs, which creates the illusion of knowledge. In fact, the material is not fixed in memory.
