IE8 in strict mode does not support transparency

IE8 in Strict Mode, as expected, ignores the CSS alpha(opacity=xx) filter alpha(opacity=xx) , which was used to set transparency, but does not itself support the CSS3 opacity property. And although opacity refers to the unfinished CSS3 specification, web developers are thus left without the method of setting transparency through CSS in the new IE.
