The smartphone can read the password from the screen from the reflection in your eyes, as well as fingerprints

Unexpected news came from Germany. Studies conducted at the Technical University of Berlin (hereinafter referred to as TU Berlin) showed how easily a smartphone can read passwords from the screen of the phone by reflection both in the glasses and in the pupils of the user.
Translation from Heise.de , original pictures can be viewed right there.

The cameras of the new phones are becoming better and better, the resolution of the matrix is constantly growing and this can be used not only for good self-photos. Studies conducted at TU Berlin together with Telekom Innovation Laboratories have shown that it is possible to “see” the image on the screen using the integrated front-facing camera. From the first attempt it became possible to follow the user’s clicks on the display by the reflection in his pupils alone.

For the tests, the Oppo N1 was equipped with a 13-megapixel rotating camera. Through a special application, access to the camera of the phone was obtained and photos of the user's eyes were taken, from which the displayed screen image was taken. In the case of glasses it is still simpler, the image becomes much better and the requirements for the camera are reduced. See for yourself, any spyware application, having only access to the camera can severely undermine the security of a paranoid .

It is interesting that you can also "remove" the fingerprints of users. For this you need to connect to the main camera, usually it gives a better image and has a higher resolution. All the user needs is to reach for the phone once.

A report on this project will be presented on August 19 at WOOT 2014 in San Diego.
