What experiments Facebook puts on its users

On June 17, an article titled Experimental Evidence of Social Contamination of Emotions through the Social Networks was published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The essence of the study is the selective deletion of entries from the Facebook news feed. For the experiment, 689 thousand people were selected, half of whom had negatively colored messages in the news feed, and the other half, on the contrary, were positive.

The team of researchers noticed that by deleting part of the messages, they manage to manipulate the emotions experienced by the person who views the filtered news line in this way. Thus, those who deleted positive messages in the news feed after filtering, in turn, wrote negatively colored posts and statuses themselves, and those who deleted negative messages reacted in the opposite way.

It is noted that the experiment did not affect the display of the wall on the pages of friends or private messages.

When you register with Facebook, you accept the user agreement, which, in particular, indicates your consent to "internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research and service improvement." Therefore, in theory, Facebook reserves the right to manage the content of each user's news feed at its own discretion.
