Discov3ry: extruder nozzle to a conventional 3D printer for working with ... chocolate cream, silicone, polyurethane, clay

Now a 3D printer, even a very original one, few people can be surprised. Such devices gradually become a part of our life, and on Habré, as far as can be judged, quite a few people who have a 3D printer (either at home or at work).

So, besides the usual devices of this type, there are also non-standard ones intended for “printing” objects not only from molten plastic, but also from other materials (chocolate, food cream, silicone, wood fibers, etc.). True, they write a lot about such printers, but they are practically not on sale.

Now the situation can change radically. A few days ago, a campaign was launched on Kickstarter to raise funds for a specific nozzle for 3D printers with a stepper motor , which can work with almost any type of pastelike substance.

What can an extruder work with?

The nozzle can work with a variety of materials, including food cream, silicone, wood fiber, clay, ceramics, Nutella, conductive dye, polyurethane.

For different materials there are different cartridges, with holes of different diameters on the extruder. The same "Nutella" is squeezed through the holes of a smaller diameter, and the silicone or polyurethane - through the holes of a larger diameter.

Compatibility, connectivity and equipment

According to the manufacturers, the extruder nozzle is compatible with 3D printers of any model, provided that this is a FDM printer with a stepper motor.

To connect the extruder you just need to connect the printer with the cartridge, plus combine the electronic components of the new system and the printer.

Delivery and price

The Discov3ry extruder at the very beginning of the campaign could be obtained for 249/289 Canadian dollars. Positions are now available starting at 299 Canadian dollars (275 US dollars).

Originally planned to collect 30 thousand Canadian dollars (27,500 US dollars), but already collected 3 times more: 96585 Canadian dollars, at the time of this writing. And until the end of the campaign - another 16 days.
