Hi, Habr!
The Samsung blog has already skipped the
news that the flagship Galaxy Tab S series with Super AMOLED displays will soon be on sale. On June 27, these tablets went on sale in the USA, and on July 11 they will come to Russia.
I turned them in my hands a little and am ready to say a couple of gentle ones.
')

Design
The tablet looks stylish, like all gadgets from Samsung - this is not to take away from the Korean company. Keep the gadget comfortable, textured back panel does not slide. The body is made of soft-touch plastic. The tablet is light enough to hold with one hand.
The older model in the LTE version weighs 467 grams, and its thickness is 6.6 mm, which makes this tablet one of the thinnest on the market in its class.

The diagonal of the tablet is not quite standard: it is 10.5 inches. After my Lenovo c 11.6 inches, it seems small, but it’s from my habit of a particular gadget.

On the back - the camera and flash. At the ends are microUSB, a paired volume control button, a screen off button, closed ports for a sim card and a microSD.

Iron
All tablets of the line carry on board as many as eight cores. The tablets are based on the processor Exynos 5 Octa (4 cores 1.9 GHz + 4 cores 1.3 GHz) and have 3 GB of RAM. Responsible for the graphics processor Mali-T628 MP6. Some sites were quick to write that the Snapdragon 800 will be in the LTE version, but it is not.
The tablets are equipped with two types of flash drives: 16 and 32 gigabytes, but only 16 gigabytes will be available in Russia for now. In addition, the Galaxy Tab S supports microSD cards with a capacity of up to 128 gigabytes.
Technical characteristics in comparison
I compared the characteristics of the older model with the flagship from Sony and iPad Air. Perhaps, Apple is not quite correct to compare it, but I will leave it.

Display
The resolution of the display is amazing. Of course, this seems like a race for the numbers, but the image quality is nonetheless truly excellent. The aspect ratio is 16:10.
In fact, the main advantage of this display is not resolution. Tab S is the first large-format tablet with a Super AMOLED screen (three years ago, Samsung already had an AMOLED Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet, but small and relatively expensive). The use of Super AMOLED technology gives several advantages at once. First, the large color gamut - the colors are noticeably cleaner and richer than on the average LCD screen. Samsung promises a color coverage of 94% AdobeRGB, typical LCD tablets usually have slightly less coverage than sRGB — about 70% AdobeRGB (although some LCD models go beyond sRGB, but they are literally units). Plus, AMOLED has a very high contrast, so black is really black, good economy (unlike LCDs, there is no backlight constantly consuming full power, no matter what happens on the screen), less glare - the picture is better seen in bright light , even in the sun. Finally, the AMOLED screens are thinner than the LCD, so the Tab S's 6.6 mm case was able to place a fairly large capacity battery (one third larger than the Sony Tablet Z2, which is 6.5 mm thick but made on a standard LCD -screen).
Of course, there is a problem with the fact that almost all photographs and films are now made for ordinary screens, so on AMOLED colors may look more saturated than they should be. But in the settings of the screen there are several profiles, one of which reduces the color gamut to the usual sRGB.

Autonomous work
The battery capacity is 4900 (for 8.4 inches) or 7900 mA • h (10.5 inches). This will allow to work, according to the manufacturer’s certification, for 11 hours. In addition, there is a function of "Extreme Energy Saving" - it translates the screen into black and white mode and disables all minor services and functions. The meaning of the black and white picture is that the black background on the AMOLED consumes almost no energy, so the remaining charge will give several hours of real use, and not just lying on the table. The function is activated manually even on a fully charged battery, so if you leave, for example, on a camping trip, where there will be no power outlets, you can turn it on immediately.

Performance
The tablet has a high speed and a complete lack of brakes. The benchmark figures are decent.

It is a pity that in Russia they will be on sale only on July 11, and in the USA they will appear already on June 27.
