Authorities in the Irkutsk region banned from using Google

According to documents received from a source in the regional government, ministries and local governments in the Irkutsk region were instructed to stop using the Internet services of Google abroad. It is necessary for regional and municipal authorities to prohibit the use of network data storages, postal services and company search engines, as well as software for creating websites in their work. In addition, cooperation on educational programs and competitions of Google is not allowed.

In their instructions, the office of the governor and government of the Irkutsk region refers to a letter from the office of the presidential plenipotentiary representative in the Siberian Federal District No. 4c of June 2, 2014. The decision to abandon the use of Google services is related to ensuring the safety of the authorities.

The government of the region does not officially confirm the distribution of these documents .
