Nokia X2 introduced: the next generation of the X line

Today, Microsoft Mobile OY (formerly Nokia Devices & Services) introduced the second generation of the Nokia X line, the Nokia X2 model and an improved platform interface (based on the Android Open Source Project).

At an affordable price (estimated cost - 99 euros excluding taxes and fees), the novelty compared to the models of the first generation differs in a number of improvements in hardware, design, software and services.

"Iron"

From the technical point of view, the Nokia X2 is the result of the evolutionary development of the first generation of Nokia X smartphones. Although the list of changes is quite impressive.

A more powerful dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz was replaced by one gigantz Snapdragon S4. The amount of RAM has grown to 1 GB. The novelty is equipped with a built-in storage capacity of 4 GB, and also supports microSD cards up to 32 GB.

The size of the capacitive IPS-display in comparison with Nokia X increased by 0.3 inches and is now quite impressive 4.3 inches. The display resolution, as before, is 800 x 480 pixels at a density of 217 ppi. For the first time in the X line, the Nokia ClearBlack technology, known for many Lumia smartphones, was used, providing the most contrast image even in bright light.

The main camera has become a 5-megapixel, receiving autofocus and flash. Also, there was a front camera for Skype and video calls in other messengers. Nokia X2 supports standards such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n and GPS / GLONASS.

The 1800 mAh battery provides up to 10 hours (2G) and 13 hours (3G) in talk mode and up to 23 days in standby mode with two active SIM cards.

The dimensions of the device are 121.7 x 68.3 x 11.1 mm, weight - 150 grams.

Platform and Services

The interface of the Nokia X platform, based on the Android Open Source Project, has been significantly redesigned. Instead of a two-screen and one-button interface scheme, the Nokia X2 has 3 screens and two Home and Back buttons — the latter implements fast switching between tasks.

The scheme of the three-screen interface is as follows:
- the main screen with adjustable tiles (the analogue of the main screen on Lumia smartphones, where the user can bring the most frequently used applications);
- called the “swipe” to the right of the Fastlane screen, which provides quick access to recently used applications (for example, the ability to respond to one touch) and events;

- caused by “swipe” to the left a complete list of applications, sorted alphabetically, as in Lumia smartphones.

For the start screen, more personalization options are now available, including the ability to arrange tiles by color.

In Nokia X2, Microsoft services are pre-installed by default, including Outlook.com, Skype, OneDrive with (!) 15 gigabytes for free storage of files in the cloud. In addition, the OneNote and Yammer services that are new for this product line have become available in the Nokia Store app store.

In Russia, the Nokia X2 also continue to be friends with Yandex. It is expected that the Yandex key services will be preinstalled in the smartphone: Search, Yandex.Browser, Yandex.Maps and Yandex.Store application store.

Design

Nokia X2 has a bright and stylish case: on the outside, the screen covers a black panel with two touch buttons, the back and side faces are fully recessed into a removable monolithic cover. On the right side of the case, there is a lock / on button and a volume rocker, and the 3.5 mm audio output and Micro USB have found their place in its upper part.

In general, the design of the device was inherited from the Nokia X, but in the second generation the case received a new two-layer structure with a crystal-clear top and a bright inner layer. The result was a rather unusual “depth effect”. At first, the model will be available with a glossy green, orange and black hull. Glossy yellow and white, as well as matte gray will complement the palette a little later.
