EBay delivery service breathes incense every day

Last fall, eBay executives shared ambitious plans to develop the day-to-day delivery service of eBay Now , for which they even acquired Shutl, a British startup developing fast delivery for e-commerce customers. Plans for eBay included expansion to 25 cities , including London, by the end of 2014.

Now, apparently, these plans did not come true. Sources on the VentureBeat site claim that the case is moving towards closure.

Since the end of April, there are layoffs within the company and the transfer of delivery functions to third-party courier services.

Among the problems of the project is ineffective management, but the main trouble was obviously conceptual difficulties: the service demanded during the holiday season was not loaded enough on other days. An even more serious problem is that eBay is not a store like Amazon, but an intermediary platform, and each specific order is completely individual - the delivery service needs to connect two sides of the transaction, and not just bring the goods from the warehouse to the buyer. Such processes are harder to debug, which probably led to the management problems mentioned.
