Nokia and SEL introduced a new type of flexible OLED display.
Many companies are working to create reliable flexible displays that could be used in many areas of industry, as well as in consumer electronic devices. Bracelets with a circular display, phones that are not afraid of falling, flexible panels for presentations - all this will be possible if any of the existing prototypes goes into the stage of industrial production.
Perhaps this day is near. The other day, Semiconductor Energy Laboratory (SEL) and Nokia presented their version of this type of display at the Academic Conference on Display Technology, SID 2014 (June 1-6, 2014, San Diego, USA). ')
Partners presented two types of displays. The first is bent in half, like a book. The second is bent in two places. Both prototypes are 5.9 inch flexible OLED panels with unfolded state. The resolution is 1280 * 720 and 249 pixels respectively.
In the manufacture of displays used WTC-structure, where the light-emitting OLED and color filter are combined. All these layers are located between two insulating layers, such as a sandwich. Bending the panel can be repeatedly, up to 100 thousand times, which is enough for any device.
