Detained hackers who used stolen Apple IDs to block iDevice

This morning on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation information was published about the successful operation carried out by the “K” Office in relation to persons suspected of stealing Apple user IDs and then using them to remotely lock an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad via iCloud. The attackers used the so-called “Lost Mode” of the iCloud service to remotely block iDevice (which should work under iOS 5+ and have an active “Find iDevice” function).

Two debugged schemes were used to carry out illegal activities.
')
The first was to access the victim's Apple ID account by creating phishing pages, illegally accessing e-mail, or using social engineering techniques.

The second scheme was aimed at linking someone else's device to a previously prepared account, with the aim of which on various Internet resources were created announcements of renting an Apple ID containing a large amount of purchased media content.
