Free SSL Certificates for Open Source Projects

The GlobalSign Certificate Authority began distributing free SSL certificates to open source projects that meet the criteria. This is a good opportunity for those projects that still do not have a certificate to get it. The certificate is valid indefinitely, that is, until the project meets the stated requirements.

Requirements:

“We love Open Source and know that you too! - said in a statement GlobalSign. “While we support Open Source in a variety of ways, the most natural way for us to support will be to help distribute SSL.” In addition to the simple distribution of certificates, GlobalSign contributes to the dissemination of knowledge on proper configuration configuration: if configured incorrectly, the certificate will be taken away (see requirements above).

Statistics for 154,000 popular Internet sites show that only 29.4% support SSL correctly.

According to GlobalSign, absolutely every project needs SSL support. Such a step demonstrates to the users the concern for their security and the protection of personal data, guarantees the authenticity of the code being distributed and software, as well as sets a good example for everyone else.
