In our previous
social media study
, there were no data about Odnoklassniki’s social network, which caused many questions. Today we are happy to rectify the situation and present the results of a study of the second most popular social network in Russia, conducted on the analysis of public activity in the top 100,000 groups in April 2014. The material presents data on the socio-demographic characteristics of active Odnoklassniki authors, their interests and the time of peak activity in the network.

We study social networks as a means of public communication between people, as a tool to influence public opinion. In the light of this approach, active “talking” authors are important for us - those who obviously manifest their position and express their opinions by posting open content (public messages) in social media.
In this study, public posts (text, photos and videos) and comments to them were published in the top 100,000 groups of the Odnoklassniki social network, and the data of their authors.
In total, in April 2014,
36,927,000 messages from 4,517,400 authors were published in the top 100,000 groups

An analysis of active authors on Odnoklassniki showed that among them a higher proportion of women is compared to other social media -
58.7% of authors.
27% of Odnoklassniki authors over 45 years old are the most numerous age group. The second largest group - 25% - people aged from 24 to 34 years.
57.24% of the authors are residents of Russia. The most common social network Odnoklassniki in the regions of the Russian Federation.

The greatest penetration is in the Urals and the Far East -
3.21% and 3.02%, respectively.

In addition to the socio-demographic characteristics of active Odnoklassniki authors, the topics of the most popular groups and the activity of commenting on publications (text, photo and video content) were analyzed.
The greatest activity of publications falls on the evening time - from 19:00 to 23:00 Moscow time.

More actively comment posts posted
from 10 to 17 hours and
from 0 to 3 nights: an average of 12-15 comments on the post.
50% of comments are published in the first 4 hours after writing the post.
80% of post
comments are typed in the
first day after publication.
