Russian books will go to the World Digital Library
A solemn ceremony of signing an agreement between the Library of the US Congress and the Russian National Library will take place today in St. Petersburg. The document will be signed as part of a new international project on the development and creation of a World Digital Library, RIA Novosti reports .
The main participants of the project will be national libraries and archives of various countries. The World Digital Library will collect materials on the history and culture of different nations and ethnic groups: books, manuscripts, maps, notes, postcards, and photographs. Its creation is supported by UNESCO and the International Association of Library Federations. The first stage, which includes the planning and development of the prototype site, is funded by Google , which will allocate $ 3 million for its implementation.
