We decided to radically review the notification system (tracker) on the
Toaster . And they made it more flexible, expandable, and suited to the needs of the Q & A service.
In the old tracker, all new notifications were displayed in the form of digital counters, grouped around the issue being tracked. Now, each new notification is displayed in a separate entry, while we have kept the grouping of notifications around the questions.
In the bell icon displays the counter of all messages, as before. However, now when you click on the bell, you immediately get to a single page of all notifications, and the counter on the bell is reset.

What problems we solved by changing the concept of the tracker
1. On Habré we have only two types of notifications: comments and references. On the Toaster there is at a minimum: answers, comments on questions, comments on answers, a subscription to your question, like your answer. To display all this diversity in the form of tablets was very problematic. And when we thought about adding new types of notifications, there were no additional places in the tablet at all.
2. On Habré, to view new comments, there is a special button-list. The Toaster cannot have such a button, because there are much more types of content that you may be interested in updating on this page, as already mentioned. Therefore, the user had to independently search for new, cherished content, which he was informed about by notifications.
3. I always wanted to see all the notifications in one stream, and not broken by their mortgages. Reading notifications with one tape greatly speeds up perception. We have freed the user from the constant choice of which subsection of notifications he needs to go to.
4. We do not remove read messages into a separate stack of everything we read, but save them in the same place. We think it is important to maintain the continuity of history. So that a person could at any time quickly restore the history of the reactions of other people to the content of interest.
