image

A few minutes ago, the world's largest online auction site eBay reported a successful hacking attempt. Hackers gained access to the part of the eBay database where password hashes of all registered users are stored. Experts of the company claim that personal data of users and financial information remained unavailable to hackers - they are stored separately and well encrypted.

According to a preliminary investigation, the results of which are published on the corporate eBay website, the hacking occurred in late February / early March of this year. Hackers gained access to the database that stored the names, password hashes, email, home address and phone number, as well as the date of birth.

Within 24 hours, eBay users should receive a formal notification with information about hacking and recommendations on changing the password on eBay itself and on all sites where the user used the same password.
