Hitachi
developed the Finger Vein scanner reader for working with venous fingerprinting, which is planned to be used for authentication in modern systems. Itcard SA, which provides bank service in Poland, together with Japanese engineers, will introduce this innovative equipment throughout the European state.
The scanner consists of a camera with a CCD-matrix, and a source of infrared radiation in the near range. The hemoglobin in the blood vessels of a finger placed on the scanner absorbs infrared light, which is displayed as a unique pattern of blood vessels for each person. Thus the identification of the owner of the bank account will be carried out, according to the venous pattern on his finger.
The probability of an error in reading venous patterns is reduced to almost zero, and experts say the maximum level of security and absolute protection of bank customers from any kind of fraud.

In order for a person to withdraw cash from an ATM, all you have to do is to put your finger on the scanner. Thus, bank cards with different chips and pin codes will no longer be needed. As for the accessible set of functions for the user of the upgraded bank terminals, they will remain unchanged when compared with the capabilities of standard plastic cards.
The project was named
Planet Cash . It is planned that for the current year the new ones will be converted into 1,730 ATMs in Poland. This method of biometric authentication has already been tested in several branches of Polish banks, and is also successfully used in Turkey and Japan. In addition, a similar system is being tested in Sweden, where customers in some stores and restaurants can log in to pay for goods or services with a single stroke of their hand.
